Madeline update, 13 months

Chatterbox (chat-er-bocs) noun
    1. An excessively talkative person
    2. Madeline Beavers

Boy can this kid talk.  She is attempting to repeat everything we say, and actually does pretty well. Her latest words are:

Squirrel (sqqqqq – more of a sound in the back of her throat – hilarious and my new fave)
Baby
Yes
Please (peeetz)
Avery (Aaaye)
Shoes (soooz)
Bath
Milk (ilk)
Wipe (bipe)
Block (bock)
Book
Duck
Fish

If she’s not saying words, she’s talking babble.  We’re working on family members with her.  I’m convinced that she says names in passing and when we ask her to repeat them, she smiles and moves onto something else.  Sounds like the “Mama” dance we did not too long ago.

She also knows where “nose,” “eyes,” and “ears” are and walks around with her Curious George going “ooo, ooo, ooo.”  Her monkey sound and her dog bark are very similar – Curious helps us to distinguish.  More easily understandable are sounds made by the cow, cat, lion and duck.  And actually, though Deacon is a dog, he roars like a lion. Just in case any of you haven’t noticed (hiii DeeeDeee!).

If she wants to know what something is, she points to it and says, “that.” And if you ask to see her teeth, she throws her mouth wide open (this comes in handy because she has two molars in, and the other two are visible just under her gum). Grandbuddy says we should brush her teeth twice a day instead of once now.  Feels like just yesterday when tooth #1 came in.  Back about 9 haircuts ago.  Sigh.

Our little smarty pants has her mama and daddy’s number.  At dinner last night, she dropped her sippy cup on the floor.  I don’t think she did this on purpose (for once), but she was expecting a vocal reprimand, so before we could even say anything she looked at me and held her hand out in front of her (in a talk to the hand kind of way)…and then smiled a cute smile.  We had to turn our heads and chuckle.  Who is this kid?  Is she 13 months or 13 years?!

Madeline is still a fantastic eater, and drinking milk, water and some juice/water out of her sippy. She put down an entire piece of Mexican lasagna last night for dinner (along with her green beans and some fruit), and we tried salmon with her earlier in the week.  She ate it up!  We’re having to watch her, though, because she shovels the food into her mouth. We’ve had a couple of scares where she had to cough a little, so we just have to limit what she has in front of her at one time.

Grandbuddy and Daddy got Miss M’s swing all set up in the backyard last weekend, and Madeline has thoroughly enjoyed it.  She points to it and says what sounds like “out” all the time.  130 degrees outside?  Heat, shmeat. Swinging is fantastic, per Madeline.

Can you tell that we’re having entirely too much fun with this baby girl?  She’s hilarious.  Her belly laugh is music to our ears, and her hugs are one in a million. So grateful for the opportunity to be her Mom.  I wake up excited everyday to see what she’ll come up with next.
