To Madeline on her first birthday

Our Madeline,

It’s hard to believe that one year ago today, we welcomed you into this world.  And what an entrance you made!  We love reminiscing about the day that we became your mama and daddy.  We witnessed firsthand unbelievable joy, great discomfort, pure determination, humbling patience, overwhelming, bring-you-to-your-knees love and most importantly, the miracle of life. God’s great promise.  Looking back, your entrance was perfect, and just your style.  You marched to your own beat, even in delivery.

Madeline, we planned for you and we prayed for you. Watching you grow and become wonderful, beautiful, charming you has been the greatest blessing. You have an infectious laugh and a delightful sense of humor that makes any rainy day, bright. We love to see you cut those baby blues and give us a smile! You’re smart and have a broad curiosity and an insatiable thirst to be “in the know.”  But what’s especially sweet is how much you love.  You show the utmost affection and love to those around you.

We wish for you a lifetime of good health and happiness;  the ability to find joy in your surroundings;  for you to have and receive compassion;  to know God, and appreciate His blessings;  to have confidence and to make wise decisions;  and to always know and feel just how much you’re loved.

Being your parents has been the greatest privilege of our lives. You bring us more joy than either of us can even begin to describe, sweet Madeline. We’re proud of you and revel in your kind heart, innate independence and determination, and your beautiful soul.  We’re so grateful that God shared you with us.  You’re a blessing and a treasure, and we’re so lucky to know you, to love you.  You make us whole.

Happy birthday, sweet pea.

With love,
Mama and Daddy
