I don’t know where the time has gone, but here we are, entering into
summer.
Madeline’s first year of preschool is coming to a close. We enjoyed a precious spring program at her school this week. Well…most of us did. She was all smiles and excited when she came out onto the stage with her class, but when it came time to perform, she wanted to sit in mama’s lap and that was that. We did get a full performance at home that night, however – I’ll take it! Now, we’re gearing up for her dance recital next month. She’s still loving ballet and tap (and her teacher, Miss Kay!) and shows off her moves every chance she gets. Our precious girl is spelling her name and getting dressed by herself every morning and before bed – in fact she insists on it! She’s so independent, which I just love. She’s still very much into Disney Princesses (current favorite – Sleeping Beauty), lipstick and mermaids, which is certainly her prissy side…but she’ll get out on her grandparents’ farm and feed and touch the cows and the cats without any hesitation. I love watching her grow into who she is meant to be. It’s such a privilege.

Benjamin is still the cutest little guy I ever did see. He has now had two haircuts (courtesy of
Uncle David) and has 13 teeth. Our
heavyweight (or my cinderblock with legs, as I affectionately call him) is
weighing in at around 27 lbs. He is definitely
a meat and potatoes guy and doesn’t love the variety of fruits and veggies that
his sister always has. Baby steps – I keep
putting them in front of him with the hopes that one of these days he will
realize how delicious they really are.
He’s running everywhere, reaching for things he’s not supposed to (i.e.:
electric sockets) while saying “ahh, ahh, ahh,” and can throw a mean temper
tantrum…but then he cuts his little eyes at you and smiles and comes in for a
snuggle or a kiss and the tantrum is forgiven.
He is all boy. And that is an
understatement. He says: mama, dada, cow, car, dog, hi, uh oh, mooo,
woof woof, papa (or gah gah), YaYa (Madeline)…for everything else, he let’s
sister figure it out. He loves to give
you high five and clap for his achievements (or yours) and has discovered a
love for swinging.
So far this summer, we have enjoyed many a birthday party, lots of
outside time and a trip to Buckwheat Farms strawberry patch with the cousins.
The kids picked strawberries, ate homemade ice cream and loved on the local
horses. Welcome, summer!
I enjoy these kids so much. I LOVE…repeat LOVE having one of each gender. They’re so different and so wonderful in
every way. They teach me so much about love, being a mom, and just being human.
