23 months and counting...literally.

We're coming up on birthday #2.

To start this update, I want to brag on this kid of mine.  Tonight, we were reading "Five Little Monkeys" at bedtime and I was asking her to count the monkeys.  So, she proceeds to count to 8.  Derek and I just stare at her in disbelief and then had a small party, complete with claps and cheers.  Madeline, ever the fan of positive accolades, decides to turn it up a notch and count to 10.  What?!  I ask her to do it again...and she counts to 12.  All Derek and I could do was laugh and congratulate her on being smarter than her parents.  So, she's counting to 12.  Oh, and to 3 in spanish.

She's also working on her spelling skills.  I was asking Derek where Dora was the other day - we're those parents - "Derek, where is D-o-r-a?"  In runs Madeline, "Dora!!  Mama, I want Dora!"  Really?  We're in trouble.  When Vie and Papa were here last weekend, Madeline took a liking to the stop sign at the end of the cul-de-sac, so Vie explained to her what stop means (believe me, the child knows what this means...and also knows how to ignore the request) and spelled it to her.  A few minutes, and a bit of practice later, Madeline spelled stop for me - "S-t-o-p."

Madeline has also recently started to tell us when she needs to go to the bathroom and asks to go to the potty.  Not every time, but she's starting to do this more and more.

Still talking like a 10 year old.  When someone sneezes, she says "bless you," she likes to participate in the blessing at meals, and last night at the dinner table, she said "Mama, I want to go to Target."  It's so awesome to know exactly what she needs and wants...because she tells you.  She's also successfully putting her shoes on the right feet.  She's kind of a big deal.

So, on to month 23.  Can't wait to see what's around this corner!
